Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina with an estimated population of 709,000.  It is nicknamed the Queen City in honor of the German Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg.  The city also carries the nickname The Hornet’s Nest because of events that occurred during the American Revolutionary War.  At that time, British commander General Cornwallis occupied the city, but he was driven out by hostile residents. This caused him to write that Charlotte was a “hornet’s nest of rebellion.” In 2007, Forbes named Charlotte as the third most undervalued real estate market in the U.S.
