Virginia is in southern America and has been nicknamed both Mother of Presidents (being the state where 8 American presidents were born) and Old Dominion. It is home to around 8 million people. Historically, this sate was one of the 13 colonies that formed part of the US Revolution and also joined the Confederacy in the American Civil War. During this time, West Virginia state separated and Richmond was the Confederate capital. Today, technology and media are large industries in Virginia and the leading export is computer chips.
